The most famous waterfall in the Polish part of the Karkonosze Mountains.
It is only a 20-minute walk from Cristal Resort Szklarska Poręba and located at an altitude of 525 m above sea level. The cascade is 13.3 m high, and its creation is associated with the legend of the Karkonosze and the glazier's daughter, Szklarka. In winter, the water flowing in the waterfall freezes.
It is located on the outskirts of the city, on the road leading to Jelenia Góra. The waterfall is located in the picturesque enclave of the Karkonosze National Park. It is a wonderful breakthrough section of the Szklarki stream, the so-called The Szklarka Gorge. In the central part of the ravine, on a rocky threshold at an altitude of 520 m above sea level. There is the Szklarka Waterfall, which goes down in a spiral with a narrowing cascade.
The first change about the Szklarki Waterfall dates back to the Middle Ages. The waterfall was also mentioned in the following centuries, it appeared in engravings and paintings, as this place was always considered romantic and beautiful. In 1868, an inn was built at the waterfall, which was later rebuilt into the present-day “Kochanówka” hostel. A special tourist attraction was the regulation of the inflow of the waterfall, carried out in the 19th century, which enabled the release of water after paying a fee by tourists.
