Stawa Młyny

The symbol of the city admired by all tourists. It is located at the end of the Western Breakwater. Stawa — navigation mark — is shaped like a windmill with a pulsating light on the top.

It is a symbol of the city and, according to the region's inhabitants, the most romantic place in Western Pomerania (Aż Po Morze 2015 plebiscite).

The Stawa is a navigation sign. The second part of the name of the object refers to its shape - windmill. The Stawa is located at the end of the western breakwater, where Świna joins the Baltic Sea.

The Stawa was built in 1877 (some sources mention earlier years), it was built during the modernization of the fairway. The pulsating light was initially obscured by the fan blades, and now it is done by a mechanical shutter. It is 10 meters high, painted white and has a black roof.

According to legends, in the old days an old miller who knew the recipe for the elixir of youth lived in the walls of the windmill. And it was like this: when Świnoujście became a port city, and its inhabitants started working on ships and set out on long voyages. The wives waited a long time for their husbands - sailors who were often unrecognizable on their return. They came back exhausted and aged.

A certain resident of Świnoujście, Alicja, was devastated by the appearance of her beloved Krzysztof. She went to the sea at night and cried. The voice she heard directed her to the windmill that stood behind her. An old miller came out of it. He ordered Alice and her husband to come home the next day. He instructed his husband to be hit with mud, to take a bath in the sea and to walk. A week after that, he took Krzysztof to the windmill. After a while, he became much younger. The windmill became popular - other sailors also used the miller's magical abilities. Until this one died. It was then that the windmill mechanism was put in place.

In 1976, Stawa Młyny starred in the film "The Lighthouse Keeper" - an adaptation of a novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz. At that time, a building and a balcony were added and dismantled after the completion of the photos.
